VISTRA Magnesium Bisglycinate Plus is a before-bedtime magnesium tablet that draws its magnesium from three magnesium forms - bisglycinate, oxide and tri-magnesium citrate - using Albion™ Minerals raw material from the USA.

The label declares magnesium at 110% of the Thai daily reference value, from 555.552 mg of magnesium bisglycinate and magnesium oxide, 344.829 mg of magnesium oxide and 166.666 mg of tri-magnesium citrate and magnesium oxide. One Magnesium Bisglycinate Plus tablet weighs 1,800 mg — does it provide 1,800 mg of magnesium?
No. The 1,800 mg is the weight of the tablet, which includes bulking agents, anticaking agents and other components. The elemental magnesium delivered is declared separately in the nutrition panel. As a general figure, magnesium bisglycinate is roughly 14 % elemental magnesium by weight of the compound itself, so a tablet weight and a magnesium amount cannot be compared directly.
What is magnesium?
Magnesium is an essential mineral and the second most abundant positively charged ion inside human cells. An adult body contains around 25 g of it, of which roughly 50 % to 60 % sits in bone. Biochemically it binds phosphate groups tightly, so it forms part of the phosphate-containing compounds inside cells, including ATP.
When should I take magnesium?
Magnesium does not need fat for absorption, so it can be taken with or without food. What matters more than timing is the form and the amount, because the unabsorbed portion draws water into the bowel and NIH ODS lists magnesium oxide among the forms most likely to cause diarrhoea. Splitting the amount across the day is one approach some people take.
What is magnesium bisglycinate?
Magnesium bisglycinate is magnesium chelated to two molecules of the amino acid glycine, and is roughly 18 % elemental magnesium by weight of the compound. The label therefore has to be read for whether the figure is the compound weight or the elemental magnesium.
